Led a team during launch Eight's first product, the smart mattress. Offering dual zone heating and advanced sleep analytics, the smart mattress raised over $1.2M in crowdfunding before launch, successfully fulfilling in Q3 2017. I took the design through final DFM, completed regulatory testing, and organized final manufacturing. Upon launch, I switched hats to operations, standing up and organizing our supply chain and global fulfillment to support pre-orders, D2C, and retain channels. 2018 Times Best Inventions honorable mention. Tasked with developing and executing the regulatory strategy, I brought the design into compliance with all US, Canada, and EU market requirements. The smart mattress passed UL (US and Canada), CE, REACH/RoHS, FCC, and Certipur-US testing. I was hands-on with late stage product validation and testing of DVT/PVT models. As the smart mattress reached design freeze, I owned managing Eight's design knowledge transfer between our engineers, the manufacturing team, and factory partners. I formalized the communication cadence, made site visits, and established a build planning to meet forecasted demands. As the smart mattress reached production in China, my focus became global supply chain. I developed the manufacturing plan to prioritize production to meet fulfillment demands. As head of Ops, I also stood up bulk logistics and 3PL operations to meet US demand, global drop-ship to support Eight Sleep's international pre-orders, and retail sales compliance & fulfillment. While owning fulfillment operations, I simultaneously led cost-down engineering efforts. We were able to achieve over 20% reduction in initial BOM costs within 1 year. Managing physical inventory is hard. I led multiple rounds of running changes, and oversaw the re-work of existing inventory to the latest specs. This helped us introduce product improvements faster and achieve higher customer satisfaction.
