Quirky + GE Smart Home
Smart home products, launched in collaboration with GE and distributed through Home Depot. Led the launch of connected window/door sensors, in-wall power outlet, and wall switch. Drove the design and US production line for Spotter UNIQ, the designed-to-order custom sensor product.

The Spotter UNIQ product line allowed a user to select different colors and different sensor combinations (vibration, temperature/humidity, PIR, sound, activation button, etc), built through a custom design site. The product would then be build to order. I led the entire initiative, working with both hardware and web design teams from concept to completion. This included project planning, SKU development, back-end integration of orders to the fab shop, fabrication line qualification, assembly operations, and hardware design.

Spotter UNIQ's modular sensor board allowed for custom mounting of different sensor modules onto the motherboard.

Extremely short timeline product. Debugged OEM product and drove the successful launch and distribution of 18k units in the first 2 quarters.

Final assembly area for Spotter UNIQ. Orders would then be fulfilled in Quirky's fab shop in San Francisco. Not shown is the injection molding line, CNC, and PCBA line.

Quirky had an amazingly hard-driving team culture. Collaboration often late into the early mornings.

Zigbee in-wall smart smart outlet. Brought product through tough UL regulatory for power products, into mass production.

Zigbee in-wall switch from smart lighting. Brought product through tough UL regulatory for power products, into mass production.

Zigbee water leak sensor, designed for remote monitoring and alerts to leaks around kitchen appliances, water heaters, and basements. Drove PRD, OEM partner selection, through manufacturing handoff.

In collaboration with GE Lighting, I led Quirky's product development towards several overhead lighting projects. Engineering and design work was led by Quirky, with GE taking over manufacturing handoff and distribution.

Though Quirky's bankruptcy ended the partnership, the designs and IP developed eventually became the 'C by GE' line of products being sold by GE today.
